Honey & Yogurty Goodness for your Skin

During this busy time of year, I try to make a little ‘me’ time in the few moments that I get. One of them is to spend a few minutes pampering myself and one of my favorites for fresh feeling, soft skin is a face mask.

One of the products in my online shop: Skin Brightening Face Mask and Polish – notes on the side that you can add Yogurt or Honey instead of oil or water. Why would you want to add either of those? Well, it’s to create your own fresh face mask. The shelf life of my powdered mask lasts so much longer since I haven’t added any short life ingredients to it, which is intended so it can be customized it to your skin needs for an extra treat!

Lets talk about the benefits of yogurt on skin…

According to organicauthority.com, Yogurt  contains lactic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid that dissolves dead skin cells. This gentle exfoliation creates a natural glow, prevents breakouts and helps diminish appearance of lines and wrinkles. It also can help with sunburns and reduce discolouration. So, yogurt is mildly exfoliating, anti-bacterial and hydrating as a skin treatment! Make sure you get the plain yogurt that is organic and contains probiotics. You won’t want the flavoured types that have extra things added to it, so you will get the most benefit for your skin.

Now honey benefits…

Livestrong.com notes that honey can speed healing, prevent infection, acts as a humectant (draws moisture to your skin). It is also a natural antioxidant that adds protection for the skin. It also can help sooth sunburns too – as I’ve noted in this honey body wash recipe. Make sure you use unpasturized, raw honey for the benefits listed above. Most of what is sold as honey today, doesn’t contain all the skin benefits.

As you can see, these simple ingredients can add a lot for so little! They are easy and it’s faster than creating a whole mask from scratch… but if you are a DIY’er then, go here to my previous post for creating your own clay/oatmeal/almond scrubbing face mask.

Enjoy!

Naturally yours,

Susan
